Action Plan for Reducing Contaminant Leakage from Recycling Facility

The aim of this project was to develop an action plan for managing excess water from a composting facility. The client company produces soil products and biofuel on a working surface built with bioash. The project involved an investigation of various remediation options and proposed methods to reduce the amount of excess water and to treat the water that is generated.

The report proposes measures to minimize leakage from the facility. These include adjustments to the leachate ditches and covering the slopes to reduce the bioash’s exposure to precipitation. The plan also includes sealing the surface using ECA sealant. Additionally, treatments for the excess water through pH adjustment and subsequent processes were suggested.  A Sequencing Batch Reactor or chemical precipitation, possibly combined with filtration were one suggestion. The second strategy involves constructing a facility for conventional treatment, preferably using a combination of an aerated pond and a wetland. Kemakta’s work has been used by the company in their planning of remediation measures for the area.
