Under a framework agreement with the City Development Department of Stockholm, Kemakta investigated contaminated soil at the city block Brandstegen in Midsommarkransen.
The city block Brandstegen, including the former Hägersten Fire Station, has been renovated for use as a school. The adjacent streets and park were redesigned. Kemakta has been involved in the project since 2015, tasked with investigating potential contamination in asphalt, fill, soil, and groundwater. Sampling and chemical analyses of asphalt, soil, and groundwater contributed to the pre-classification of soil for the management of contaminated materials. Due to the construction of the school and residential buildings, the project also involved extensive utility relocation in the street areas.
In the summer of 2019, the project moved into the construction phase, during which Kemakta’s role focused on environmental monitoring. This primarily involved the classification of soil for the management of contaminated materials and the sampling of dewatering water. The construction phase was completed in the spring of 2021, after which a final report was compiled, detailing the environmental monitoring of the street and park areas.
