Malmö-specific guideline values for contaminated land

Malmö-specific guideline values for contaminated land

On behalf of the City of Malmö, we at Kemakta have developed and calculated new Malmö-specific guideline values for contaminated land.

The guideline values have been tailored to the conditions in Malmö and are designed for use in construction projects across the city. By taking into account factors such as local soil characteristics, groundwater conditions, receiving environments, climate and background concentrations, they provide a more relevant and robust basis for assessing contaminated land.

The aim is to continue protecting human health and the environment, while avoiding unnecessary remediation. In practice, this can mean less soil needs to be excavated, transported and replaced — reducing climate impacts and resource use, while creating better conditions for the circular management of excavated materials.

A big thank you to the City of Malmö and everyone involved in this work!
